ALS Awareness
ALS Community

Take a behind-the-scenes look at the incredible work of the Live Like Lou Foundation over the past quarter in this edition of In the Dugout.

Baseball season is here, and we started the season with a memorable ALS awareness game on April 19 with the Milwaukee Brewers. There's plenty more MLB x Live Like Lou action this season, so check out our lineup for the fifth annual Lou Gehrig Day in MLB:

June 1 | Kansas City Royals, Miami Marlins
June 2 | San Francisco Giants, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers (tickets coming soon)
June 3 | Pittsburgh Pirates (tickets coming soon)
June 4 | Atlanta Braves

At Live Like Lou, we deeply value the dedication and support of our incredible volunteers. Without them, we wouldn't be able to make the impact we do. Our volunteers come from near and far, all joined by a shared commitment to help those living with ALS and their families.

Earlier this year, our Board of Trustees elected new officers! Please join us in thanking Chris Brussalis, PhD, Chair; Greyson Geiler, Vice Chair, and Treasurer. These individuals generously volunteer their time to advance our mission. Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers!

With baseball season in full swing, it's the perfect time to tip our caps to one of the game's greatest legends: Lou Gehrig. He signed his first contract with the New York Yankees in April 1923, stepping up to the plate for what would become a Hall of Fame career. Over the next 15 seasons, Gehrig helped lead the Yankees to six World Series championships while setting a record for 2,130 consecutive games played, earning him the nickname the Iron Horse.

We're excited to introduce you to our latest products in the store:

With spring in the air and Lou Gehrig Day just around the corner, it's time to gear up with a Live Like Lou baseball tee! To enter our giveaway, follow us on one (or more!) of our social media platforms and tag a friend you'd love to share a day at the ballpark with.

As we wrap up this quarter’s In the Dugout, we reflect on an incredible few months of progress, activity, and devotion for Live Like Lou. Here are just a few of the many additional highlights of what we’ve been up to:

  • To kick off ALS Awareness Month, wear #Blue4Lou this Friday, May 2, to raise ALS awareness and honor those impacted by the disease. Wear blue for Lou, for someone you love living with ALS, or in support of the ALS community. Download our #Blue4Lou signs!
  • We had the opportunity to visit Lou Gehrig's alma mater, Columbia University, and presented Beth Grossman and her daughters with a Quality-of-Life Grant. Our grant was matched by an anonymous donor to double the impact for Beth to have access to a functioning shower in her home. This grant was made possible as a result of Columbia baseball player Cole Fellows being named Captain of the 2025 Lou Gehrig Community Impact Team.
  • If you/your loved one is living with Lou Gehrig's disease, check out Talk to Me, Goose!, an innovative, new iOS app enabled by AI to reduce the level of effort required to create the text you need to convert to speech.
  • We’re thrilled to introduce our new Communications and Marketing Specialist, Maycee Wilkie. Maycee’s dad passed away from ALS, and ever since, it has been her mission to help those affected by the disease.

We'll be in touch again in a few months with more exciting updates. Thank you for your continued interest in the Live Like Lou Foundation and our mission to leave ALS better than we found it.
